Life update: I ran a half marathon. A lot of people have told me they could never run 13.1 miles, and I would agree with them had I not just started running one day. if you want to become a runner you need to just start.I had the best time training for the half because it was never too serious for me. I would go on a few runs a week, often 2-4 miles. In December, I started to notice some knee pain that was slightly out of the ordinary. My friend that runs marathons had warned me about probable running injuries because of a lack of strength training.
In January, I ran a 10k that absolutely destroyed my leg. I was in so much pain that I couldn't walk properly and had to use a knee brace for weeks. I took it easy, and I learned how to build strength in my legs. Soon, the elliptical machine at school became my favorite pastime. As the race approached, I became nervous because I didn't think I could possibly run the whole thing. On the day of the race, I used my GU gel, and decided that I would run as much as I could, stopping to stretch every mile or so. 2 hours and 52 minutes later, I finished the race having run at a 13:06 minute pace. This was HUGE for me, because I didn't think I would be able to do even a 18 minute pace. Overall, the half was such a wonderful experience, and I couldn't recommend it enough. Until next time! Today I learned that I am a master of the power nap (when I want to be). My day was very productive, for I went to my 9am, my 11am, ate lunch, worked out for 45 minutes, did some homework, and then became so tired that I just needed to nap. I set a 20 minute timer, prayed for about 5, and woke up feeling very well rested. I 10/10 recommend power naps.
Now, I am doing my Spanish homework before a recruitment workshop, and I just do not feel very motivated. I think I may do a time lapse or something to stay off of my phone but get work done. Until next time! Today is the first Friday back at school, and it has been a fun week! I had a wonderful time over my winter break, and I had the opportunity to go to another school to participate in sorority recruitment with them, and I ended up making a ton of friends. It was so much fun, and tonight I have 4 of them coming to Austin to visit me!
This week was epic, and here's why: 1. Sigma Chi I got back to school on Sunday, and I went to Sigma Chi, a fraternity where I ran into my across the street neighbor from home and a kid I went to middle school with. 2. Katie Kime I was in class on Wednesday when I learned that Katie Kime was doing a warehouse sale. I went and ran into my old leader from summer camp, and I also got to meet Katie Kime, one of my artistic inspirations, so that was really exciting! 3. New Friends Visiting Tonight, I have 4 friends from Baylor visiting, and I haven't seen them in one week, but I missed them already! Needless to say it is going to be a super fun visit, and I am thrilled that they were able to come to Austin. This concludes my blog update. Until next time! 1st. WHat a semester. So, I got back home for the winter break yesterday, and now I finally have time to reflect on the semester. This year, I did not perform as strongly as I had hoped, but I still did fine academically. I did over-commit this semester between a full course load, serving on my sorority's executive board, and interning almost 30 hours each week. Some of my favorite moments from this semester include: Texas Rose Festival, Texas vs OU weekend, and going to every single UT home game this year. I had a wonderful weekend every weekend, which was just incredible. I am so thankful for the friends I have made in college that make the time just fly by. 2. Texas Rose FestivalThis should be its own blog post. This was the most fun weekend ever, and I am so thankful I got to participate. If you don't know what the Texas Rose Festival is, you should look it up, but I will explain it! Tyler, Texas is called the "Rose Capital of the World," and every year there is a festival to celebrate the town's history. There is a girl who is the queen, and then there is a princess, and then the Queen has a court of boys and girls from Tyler as well as other Texas cities. I was a duchess because I am from Houston, and I had so much fun being the "Duchess of Space City". The Queen and her court wear these FABULOUS dresses that are sketched by the same artist, and they all go with the theme of that year. This year, the theme was "The Story of Film", and my dress was "Steamboat Willie." It was a MAGICAL WEEKEND! I think I will make this it's own post because there's just so much to unpack from it all. Anyway, I made some fabulous memories, and I met some awesome people from this weekend. 3. RunningIn February, I will be running the Austin Half Marathon, so until then I am training. I do not really have a set training regimen, so I have been sort of following "Couch to Half Marathon." My runs are 3-3.5 miles as of right now, and I am doing some strength training to get faster. Running is just so boring, so comment if you have any song recommendations or ideas on how to make it more fun. 4. In brief, I have been busy.Overall, this semester was probably my favorite, and I have loved making so many memories. Now, I am ready to take a break and rest up before the sprint of a second semester.
Until next time, Ramsey Hi y'all! This morning I woke up and went on a run--first with my dog-- then with my little brother--because my dog was an atrocious runner. She stopped every 3 seconds and couldn't go in a straight line at all. It was fun running with my brother because he was biking next to me and provided entertainment. I hope he will go with me again because I CAN NEVER RUN WITH MY DOG! That was CRAZY. At least she didn't go to the restroom or anything. Then, I did some laundry, and I went to lunch/shopping with my mom. Finally, I went and met up with 2 former campers (it felt like a high school reunion, but very sweet), and now I am doing accounting homework. Just wanted to update the blog for my own personal records. Until next time!
