I always think I look so cool in the picture below, but at the same time my coolness drops due to the fact that my mom took that picture and drove me to school until I was 16 and three quarters. I did get my license at sixteen and a half, but didn’t start vroom vrooming until a few months later. Anyways, all that is beside the point. The point is that being able to drive ups one’s coolness factor by like at least 2%. Joke’s on me because my coolness factor was at like a 16, so now I’m 18% cool. But for people like my friend Sarah, well they’re 102% cool now. So, while driving makes one cooler, it also makes some people more annoying by at least 10%. Allow me to explain. When you can’t drive, someone drives you places or you don’t go (unless you bike or walk but for this scenario’s sake you can’t do either). When you don’t have a ride there, new drivers ALWAYS offer to give a ride, but that generosity comes at a cost. Once you’re in the car with a person whose coolness upped 2%, they start complaining about the traffic. And then they talk about gas and it goes on and on. So yes they gave you a ride, but they also worked your nerves for an amount of time that you will never get back. So yes, driving is cool but is it THAT cool? Now that you’ve read that, what are your opinions on new drivers? Or since only my mom and Sarah read these, what’s your opinion on my driving?
![]() Today was the last day of my junior year of high school. It was quite an accomplishment, and to celebrate, I opened a letter that I wrote to myself at the beginning of the year in August. It was fun to see how not much has changed, and other than the global pandemic, my year went pretty much the way I had expected it to go. Maybe it's because the year pretty much stopped after March, but things otherwise did go as planned. Here is a list of some of the most fun parts from my first year of being an upperclassman. 1. Vice President Meetings Being VP was kind of a big role, and with it came a lot of great memories. I got to be behind the scenes planning school events, renovations, and hearing a bunch of teacher gossip. It was a pretty successful year because I was able to keep up with the school and help out a lot. 2. Class Retreat This year my grade went on a two night retreat. It was a lot of fun for the first night that I was there. I fell off of a bouncy thing and rode in an ambulance for the first time where I waited at the hospital to get an X Ray. I think I'll make this story a post of it's own...MOVING ON 3. Driving Okay, to be fair I don't like driving itself, but being able to see my friends a lot more was a lot of fun. ![]() 4. Dances I made BANK making homecoming mums this year, and I also ended up gping to both homecomings with people I had never met before. Maybe that can also be a follow up post. 5. My last favorite thing from this year was probably hanging out with friends in general. It doesn't matter where we are or what we're doing, but this year I have met a ton of new people that I do not even know what I would do without them at this point. We have had so much fun whether it was around a fire at my house, celebrating my dog's birthday, or going to Whataburger after a football game. These people are some of the best friends one could ask for and it's because of them that Junior Year went by s fast. So all in all, It was a pretty awesome year, and I wouldn't trade some of these experiences for the world. ![]() Spanish has always been one of my favorite subjects. I like learning the language and it will come in handy in my future. Hey, it even comes in handy now. While I absolutely LOVED watching Jane The Virgin, I quickly learned that not all TV soap operas are of that quality--ESPECIALLY--not Silvana Sin Lana, a telenovela which I am supposed to watch for school. There are many things to love about watching TV for educational purposes; in fact, I use that excuse a lot, but there are also some thins to not love about watching TV for educational purposes...or at least this show to be specific. Number 1: The shows always have SO MANY CHARACTERS Silvana has a theme song that lasts for 1 minute and 30 seconds. You may think that is a short amount of time, but 90 seconds lasts longer than you think. Anyways, that's beside the point. There are a whopping 19 characters in this show, and they all make an appearance during each episode. 19 people is a lot to keep up with, especially with the constant love triangles and fights that are strewn throughout. Now, this leads me to my next point. Number 2: Why are there so many bad actors? If you're hired to act for a big corporation, you should at least do a semi-believable job. Stereotypes are not that difficult to portray, so why does there always have to be the obnoxious grandma, clingy girlfriend, boy next door, etc? These characters don't even develop as the show goes on throughout the run of 121 episodes. Yes you read that correctly. There are 121 episodes of this. Also, each episode is 45 minutes. Number 3: There are 16-year-olds playing second graders. In one of the most recent episodes I watched, Lupita (the baby of the family) get's her First Communion. It was a Catholic Mass, so I knew that the white dress and veil was the real deal, but typically people only do this get up in second grade. It made me realize that this girl's acting made me so uncomfortable because she is actually 10 years older than the age she is playing. I do have more reasons as to why I do not enjoy this show for educational purposes. I am sure all 27 viewers who watched it during its 1 season run thoroughly loved it, but now 10th and 11th graders have to watch it and take quizzes based off of the plot. Hopefully a big plot twist occurs and maybe I'll start to like this telenovela, but until then...it is the worst thing I have ever seen. Except for when I went to this Christmas Caroling event and all of the carolers sang the songs to the tune of "Immaculate Mary". They did not do that on purpose either. It was painful to watch. So, maybe Silvana is the second most awkward thing I have ever watched. |
